National Board Certification is a standards-based recognition of excellence in instruction and knowledge of practice.  Through this rigorous application process, teachers are given the opportunity to demonstrate outstanding, creative, and reflective teaching that leads to student success.  This accreditation carries high prestige nationally.  Teachers who go through this process state it is the best professional decision they’ve ever made and assert it is the most transformative professional learning experience of their instructional career.

The Baltimore County Public School System (BCPS) believes participation in the certification process is a high-quality opportunity for professional development.  Accordingly, through the scholarship selection process, the county will support a group of candidates wishing to pursue certification. Participants will be offered one-on-one and group support in completing the process.

Each spring, the Office of Teacher Development, in collaboration with BCPS National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs), will hold at least two information sessions for prospective candidates.  In March, please monitor the News Hub for registration information. For further information about National Board Certification, please visit the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards web site or contact our office with questions.
