School Climate and Safety

Sessions are organized by audience.  Please scroll down to find the session that matches your assignment. There is no need to register, simply join the relevant session at the appropriate time.  The only exception to this is content areas who are requesting that teachers select choice sessions.  If this applies to you, you will receive an email from your content office. If your assigned sessions are not full day please feel free to visit the All Staff link on the Professional Study Day homepage to access optional synchronous or asynchronous sessions.

 

Audience:  School Counselors (Required)

Session Title: School Counseling Updates

Description: This session will include curriculum updates, program plan expectations, and updates to the individual advising process.

Time: 9:30 am- 11:00 am

Audience:  School Counselors, Social Workers, School Psychologists, Pupil Personnel Workers, Hearing Officers, School Nurses, Safety Managers and other Office of School Safety Staff

Session Title: Concurrent Breakout Sessions

Description: Attendees can choose from any of 15 different breakouts during both sessions. Topics include supporting LGBTQ+ students and families, Grief and Loss, Human Trafficking, Supporting Undocumented students, Anxiety, and Social Justice.

Time: Session 1: 11:10- 12:10, Session 2: 1:00- 2:00

Audience: School Counselors, School Psychologists, and School Social Workers (Required). Nurses, PPWs, Safety Managers, and other members of the Division of School Climate and Safety may also attend.

Session Title: Behavior Threat Management Updates and CPS Updates

Description: These are annual mandatory trainings for school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists. Both will be done asynchronously via Schoology.

Time: 2:10 pm- 3:10 pm

Audience:  School Psychologists, School Psychology Interns and Practicum Students

Session Title: Office of Psychological Services Professional Study Day

Description: School Psychologists will receive PL directly related to expectations of their role in the schools in alignment with BCPS initiatives and national standards.

Audience:  School Psychologists

Session Title: Strengthening Resiliency Through Collaboration and Community

Description: Team members of the Division of School Climate and Safety, including School Psychologists will be participating in professional learning to support optimal psychological service provision to students, families, and school teams. They will have an opportunity to engage in PL around various topics including, but not limited to Helping Students Manage Anxiety; Social Justice, Equity, and Being an Anti-Racist; Helping Children Improve Executive Functioning Skills to Enhance Learning; Building Resilience to Empower Students and Families; Your Words Matter: The Impact of Language on the Brain.

Time: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Audience:  School Social Workers, MTSS Resource Teachers (school-based and central office), Instructional Support Teachers (ISTs)

Session Title: Strengthening Resiliency Through Collaboration and Community

Description: Team members of the Division of School Climate and Safety including School Social Workers, MTSS Resource Teachers (school-based and central office), ISTs (Instructional Support Teachers) will be participating in professional learning to continue to broaden knowledge in service to students, families and staff that fosters co-constructing learning communities that prioritize connection and resilience.  Team members will have the opportunity to deepen their capacities in preparation for the 2021-2022 school year and support the pathway forward towards safety and predictability in the school community.

Session Title: Helping Students Manage Anxiety

Description: Participants will be provided with strategies for elementary and secondary students that present with signs and symptoms of anxiety. 1st Choice Counseling is Presenting.

Session Title: The Impact of Violence on the Mental Health of Children and Adolescents

Description: As we navigate these trying times - COVID -19, social unrest/racism, increased mass violence, etc. - our mental wellness and the mental wellness of our students is being impacted. Participants will learn ways to support their students as they transition back to 5 day-in person learning, while they continue to balance their mental wellness during these violent times and their academics. Thrive Behavioral Health will be presenting.
